Leon E. Farhi was born in Cairo, Egypt and received his medical degree from the UniversiteĢ Saint-Joseph (Beirut, Lebanon) in 1947. he competed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Rochester Medical School in 1953-1954 and at John Hopkins University in 1954-1955. He joined the faculty of the University of Buffalo in 1958 and was promoted to full professor in 1966. he served as Chair of the Dept. of Physiology from 1982 to 1991. he was named SUNY Distinguished Professor in 1989. Rahn, Hermann, 1912-1990

Hermann Rahn was born in East Lansing, Michigan in 1912, though he spent most of his primary years in Kiel, Germany. His father Otto, a professor of bacteriology, fostered in Rahn a scientific interest in the world around him and Rahn become a keen naturalist. In 1929, Rahn graduated from high school in Ithaca, New York. He earned his bachelor's degree in zoology from Cornell University in 1933 and a PhD from the University of Rochester in 1938.
